The International Girls in ICT Day 2026 is celebrated on 23 April under the theme “AI for Development: Girls shaping the digital future”. The ITU global celebration of the International Girls in ICT Day was co-hosted, on 23 April, by the Europe and Americas regions, featuring a live link between Tirana, Albania and Brasília, Brazil. 15:00 –15:50 Session: Girls in ICT Intergenerational Dialogue and Open Discussion: AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future.
This intergenerational dialogue will bring together girls and young women with women leaders, policymakers, and experts in ICT and emerging technologies to explore how artificial intelligence can advance inclusive and sustainable development. Through an open and interactive exchange, participants will discuss how girls and young women can engage with AI not only as users, but as creators, innovators, and decision-makers shaping the digital future. The dialogue will highlight the importance of equitable access to digital skills, ethical and inclusive AI design, and intergenerational collaboration in addressing gender gaps and biases in the digital ecosystem
The session aims to inspire and empower current and future generations of girls to confidently engage with AI and emerging technologies, strengthen their digital aspirations, and contribute actively to building inclusive digital societies where no girl or young woman is left behind.
